My cats keep pooping on the floor beside the litter box. HELP!?

My cats have a really bad problem with sticking their backsides over the edge of the litter box. It's been going on for about 2 weeks. I need help. Any suggestions on how to improve their nasty habit? [they have also done their buisness on the wall by accident,too.] Help!!!!!
