What would happen to my cat if it "played" with a mouse that has ingested poison?

I apparently have a mouse problem. I have found 2 little ones dead thanks to my cats, and know where there is one there are more. I am thinking of poison because the traps are not working. But I am afraid that if the mouse comes out and my cat "plays" with it till death will that hurt my cat?
